Toshiba Storage Device Division introduces a new 1.8-inch Hard Disk Drive, the MK4009GAL.
It is based on perpendicular magnetic recording and has a capacity of 40GB. Through the use of a new Low Insertion Force connector (LIF), it is 7 millimetres shorter than current Toshiba drives. This allows manufacturers the possibility to produce even smaller consumer electronics products.
The new drive incorporates the ATA-6 interface and offer 8MB buffer memory.
The MK4009GAL has been developed specifically for ultra-portable devices such as mp3 and multi-media players and Personal Video Recorders.
