The Port Replicator is a "pass through" type hardware device so the operating system does not create a docked profile, and no LED light exists that will give you an obvious indicator of a successful connection. The only way to observe if the port replicator is recognized is to check the devices that are hooked up directly to the dock. The Device Manager and the Fn + F9 utility will confirm this.
